Short answer
What is a local EOR in Vietnam?
A local EOR in Vietnam is a Vietnamese-registered company that employs your staff itself, under its own business registration and licences, rather than a global platform that resells the service. Many global EOR platforms do not employ people in Vietnam directly: they contract a Vietnamese partner, which becomes the legal employer, and you deal with the platform. A local EOR such as Nhân Kiệt (business registration 0308022768, labour-leasing licence 029/LĐTBXH-GP, employing staff since 2009) removes that layer, so the company you sign with is the company on your employees’ labour contracts, payslips and insurance records — usually at a lower fee: US$99–199 per employee a month plus VAT, against US$599 or more at several global platforms.
Two models
Local employer or partner model.
| Local EOR | Global platform with a partner | |
|---|---|---|
| Who signs the labour contract | The EOR you contract with | A Vietnamese partner you have no contract with |
| Who files insurance and tax | The same company | The partner, reported through the platform |
| Who answers your questions | The team that runs payroll | Platform support, which relays to the partner |
| Where employee data sits | With your contracting party | With the platform and the partner |
| Typical published fee | US$99–199 (Nhân Kiệt) | US$199–699 |
| Best for | Teams in Vietnam | Teams spread across many countries |
How to check
How to tell whether an EOR is really local.
- Ask for the employing company’s name and business registration number, and look it up on the National Business Registration Portal.
- Ask which company’s name will be on the labour contract and the payslip. If it differs from the company you sign with, there is a partner.
- Ask for the labour-leasing licence number if the role will be leased, and the licence holder’s name.
- Ask where payroll is run and who files social insurance. A local EOR does both itself.
- Ask what happens to records if you leave. The answer should name who returns them and when.
When global fits better
When a global platform is the better choice.
If you employ people in many countries and want one contract, one dashboard and one invoice for all of them, a global platform is built for that. If your team is in Vietnam — or Vietnam is where most of your people are — a local EOR gives you a direct line to the employer, Vietnamese and English support, and a lower fee. Some companies use both: a global platform elsewhere and a local EOR for Vietnam.
